I know it’s only just turned January and the weather is absolutely
freezing but here at Fashion Beans we have already started looking forward to the trends of Spring & Summer, these include over the knee socks, sack dresses, pastel shades and short shorts. My favourite trend is the short shorts, the shorter the better… so keep the trousers in the wardrobe and opt for some sexy shorts this Spring/Summer! Get ready to bare those legs girls!
Shorts will be noticeably shorter and will be in two main styles; hot pants (aka big knickers!) and boy shorts as show cased by Marc Jacobs and Balmain in their Spring 2010 collections.
I’ll explain the difference between the two…
Hot pants and big knickers have a negative hemline – which means it’s pretty much none existent – the hemline curves up the upper thigh. As we have seen late last year on Pixie Lott, this style is popular for evening wear with heavy sequins and studs.
Boy shorts cover up slightly more skin than hot pants as hemlines should be no more than 2 inches down the thigh and are straight across the thigh, not curved. Think of Kate Moss Short Shorts with a bum hugging cut, but a relaxed front… avoid the camel toe!
How to wear them?
* Wear your short shorts or your big knickers under a classic blazer or with a baggy top tucked in; this will tone down the amount of skin on show and is one of the essential looks of the season.
* If you’re wearing them on a night out be sure to wear with heels; this will give the appearance of slimmer legs and a pert derriere… Result.
* Avoid looking like you’ve walked out the door in your actual knickers and either accessorise or choose a bold pattern.
* If you’re not confident about showing off your legs either try wearing your shorts over tights; standard black, patterned or coloured are all great or – let’s be honest – don’t wear them at all.
* Whichever style you chose to strut in make sure you balance out the flesh on show with bulky footwear like ankle boots, chunky sandals or edgy heels.
